India Biodiversity Awards 2020 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1.  What are the categories under which one can apply for the India Biodiversity Awards 2020?

For the India Biodiversity Awards 2020, applications are being solicited under the following categories

i. Conservation

a. Conservation of wild species
b. Conservation of domesticated species – Individual and Institution
ii. Sustainable Use of Biological Resources – Individual and Institution
iii. Replicable Mechanisms for Access and Benefit Sharing
iv. Best Biodiversity Management Committees

One can apply under any of the above mentioned category using the prescribed application form.

2. Is there a minimum number of species that has to be conserved to be eligible for the ‘Conservation of wild species’ or ‘Conservation of domesticated species’ categories?

No, there is no such limitation on the number of species conserved to be eligible for the ‘Conservation of wild species’ or ‘Conservation of domesticated species’ categories and conservation efforts can be carried out for any number of species.

3.  Should the conservation be done for any specific species in order to apply under the ‘Conservation of wild species’ or ‘Conservation of domesticated species’ categories?

No, there is no specificity in the species to be conserved under the ‘Conservation of wild species’ or ‘Conservation of domesticated species’ categories and conservation efforts can be carried out for any species.

4.  What is the procedure to apply?

To make an application for the India Biodiversity Awards 2020, the steps are as follows,

  2. 2. Fill in the required information within the prescribed word limit.
  3. 3. E-mail the completed form to the e-mail id: bdawards@nbaindia.in

5. When is the last date to apply?

Applications for the India Biodiversity Awards 2020 will be received until 30th November, 2019, midnight. Any changes in the last date for the application will be notified on the website (http://nbaindia.org/).

6. How many awards are given?

The India Biodiversity Awards 2020 are presented to 7 winners under the following categories

7. How are the winners selected?

A separate committee comprising of experts from various fields will be constituted to scrutinize and evaluate the applications received. This committee will be responsible for the selection of the winners.

8.  Should the application for ‘Best Biodiversity Management Committee’ come directly from SBBs?

Yes, the applications for the category ‘Best Biodiversity Management Committee’ must be nominated/forwarded by the respective SBBs for it to be considered.

9. What does the Award comprise of?

The winners of India Biodiversity Awards 2020 will be given a Memento, a Certificate and a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakhs each for individuals and Rs. 5 lakhs each for institutions.

10.  When will the Award ceremony take place?

The India Biodiversity Awards 2020 will be presented to the winners at the Award Ceremony on 22 May, 2020, during the celebration of the International Day for Biological Diversity.
