RECOMMENDATIONS ON THE FORMATION OF STATE BIODIVERSITY BOARDS,
BIODIVERSITY MANAGEMENT COMMITTEES, THE IMPLEMENTATION OF
PEOPLES BIODIVERSITY REGISTERS AND THE ROLE OF OTHER INSTITUTIONS

1. Awareness programme on Biodiversity Conservation must be strengthened.
2. During formation of BMC's land holding Scenarios need to be considered on Location/region specific considerations.
3. More clarifications are needed about the role of different govt. departments and NBA.
4. Role of NBPGR can be highlighted in registering farmer's variety for equity sharing.
5. Very strong frame work is needed to implement PBR (participatory approach).
6. Pilot programmes of PBR initiative are necessary.
7. Technical guidance should flow from SBB for the formation of BMC as well as PBR.
8. Explanations are required legislative execution of penalties and related process.
9. The experiences of making the PBR should be made available in the website.
10. Some nodal agency with experience be identified for facilitation of process of formation of BMC and PBR activity.
11. Strengthening and funding facility in the north eastern states for the formation of BMC and PBR.
12. Documentation of experiences from different parts of the country is developed in the form of a film and circulated to all.
13. Effort should be made for creation of a cadre of trainers.
14. Biodiversity should be viewed as life supporting system.
15. Training is necessary on focused issues for taxonomists and social scientists and lawyers.
16. Capacity building mechanism is needed to work on the PBR.
17. Customary Law should be taken care in the North Eastern Region.
18. Transformation of local knowledge to scientific knowledge needs careful implementation.
19. Integration of existing structure in the training and awareness campaign.
20. Networking of the biodiversity departments in the states to know what is the different activates going on.
21. Incentives for biodiversity conservation for locals.
22. Apprehension of people is reduced by ensuring systematic benefit returns.
23. The potentials of existing Eco-clubs may be harnessed Involvement of different target groups in information generation need to be addressed in view of their interest and specialization etc.
